Kaya Scodelario is an English actress known for her roles as Effy Stonem on the E4 teen drama series Skins and Teresa Agnes on the Maze Runner film series. She has also appeared in the films Wuthering Heights, Shank, and Clay Kids. Scodelario was born in Haywards Heath, England, to a Brazilian mother, Katia, and an English father, Roger. She has a younger brother, Eliot. Her first language is English, but she is also fluent in Portuguese.
Scodelario began her acting career as a child, appearing in various television shows and films. She made her film debut in 2003, appearing in the short film Afternoon Delight. She had a supporting role in the 2009 film Newt, and played the lead role in the 2010 British film Moon. In 2013, she appeared in the music video for Bastille’s song “Pompeii”. Scodelario’s breakout role came in 2007, when she played Effy Stonem on the E4 teen drama series Skins. She reprised her role in the show’s fifth and sixth series.
In 2014, Scodelario played the lead role in the Maze Runner film series, based on the book series of the same name by James Dashner. She reprised her role in the sequels Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials and Maze Runner: The Death Cure. Scodelario has received critical acclaim for her performances in the Maze Runner films. In 2016, she appeared in the music video for The Chainsmokers’ song “Closer”.
Scodelario has appeared in several fashion campaigns, for brands such as Pull&Bear, Topshop, and Vans. She is known for her edgy and unique style. Scodelario often takes risks with her fashion choices, and is not afraid to experiment with new trends. She has been photographed wearing a variety of different brands, including Bottega Veneta, Dolce & Gabbana, Miu Miu, and Givenchy.
Scodelario is also a vegan, and has been outspoken about her beliefs. In 2018, she launched a vegan leather handbag collection with the ethical fashion brand Matt & Nat. She has said that she hopes to use her platform to raise awareness about veganism and animal rights.
