Similarly, before coloring your hair you should opt for proper consultation in salons with hair experts who can guide you in various aspects like whether the color will compliment your skin type or will your hair be able to sustain the changes. Be accustomed to the color terminology like ombre, somber, balayage and make proper choice after understanding all the options and be patient.

Keep in mind that you will have to go for more salon appointments which will later burn a hole in your pocket if it is way out of your budget because if you want to go for a drastic change in color then one salon trip is not going to be enough and let’s keep in mind the maintenance. Well, literally everything comes at a price. You won’t be using your normal shampoo and conditioner and you cannot go for extensive application of hair styling products as it will have an adverse effect on your hair.

  • The DIY Project:

If you have virgin hair aka hair that has never been treated before then let me give you a head start do not experiment on your hair at home because it could turn into a disaster which you cannot undo. However, if you are keen on doing this then it is always advisable to use safe dyes than permanent dyes, box dyes or bleach. Get proper tools and take appropriate precautions. Always go for a patch test and remember that what you see on the box you may not get the desired result so don’t be disappointed.

Now That You Have Done It, Next What??

I am sure that after talking to experts you will come across a variety of tips and recommendations regarding the next step to maintain those shiny and beautiful locks that you have newly acquired. Here are a few things you need to keep in mind after you have freshly gone through a transformation.

  • It is always advisable not to wash your hair immediately and wait for 48 hours because now the cuticles of your strands have opened up and the color pigments will take time to penetrate into your hair. So, unless you want the color to fade away soon do follow this step.
  • Invest on proper hair products. You may have to switch over from your normal shampoo and conditioner and go for clarifying shampoo which is sulfate free so that the chemicals won’t be harsh on your hair along with a moisturizing conditioner.
  • Limit your exposure to the sun because it may not act as your best friend at this time. You also need to minimize the application of heat on your hair like less use of hair styling appliances like straighteners and rollers or you can scarves, hats and headbands.
  • Do not go overboard while you are oiling your hair or do not stop oiling it in the name of westernization. Once a week is always recommended which includes oiling your scalp. Always remember the more oil you use the more shampoo you will have to use which will result in fading of color easily.
