Our skin is a reflection of our lifestyle. Don’t you agree with me? Dry skin, oily skin, pimples, acne and many more problems irritate us. So, do we really have to live with these problems? I would say, absolutely not….and this is why…
There are many problems related to skin needs to be tackle but we will discuss about the problem which is itself the house of many problems, Oily skin. Do you have ever think, the soft and normal skin you had in childhood how suddenly started to turn into dull and oily skin? Well, if you don’t know then read. First of all, know how our skin becomes oily?
The skin starts seems oily when the sebaceous glands in the skin starts produces too much sebum. Now, what is sebum? Sebum is the waxy or oily substance which protects and hydrates the skin. Although, sebum is necessary to keep skin healthy yet too much sebum can also create lots of problem for the skin. Somehow, Oily skin is natural to some people. But our habits do huge impact over our skin, if we stop pursuing those habits then somehow, we will get rid of our oily skin problem.
What I really mean from oily skin i.e. when the skin releases excess sebum which is more than required for the skin and later it makes the skin more greasy and sticky. Oily skin make us suffer from many other problems too like pimple breakout, acne breakout, blackheads, eczema, still few are left. Oily skin may has many factors to be blamed but still it has been told by experts that oily skin ages slowly in comparison to dry skin type. Anyways, let’s check, what are those habits which may increases the oil of your skin and solutions to tackle the problems.
Skin Care Routine for Oily Skin
Not forget to cleanse your skin
Cleaning your face is must even becomes more important when you have oily skin type. You should wash your face for two times a day, one time in the morning and second time in the evening. You can wash your face with the help of water because using any face wash can make you feel oil free but for some minutes again you have to suffer with that oiliness on your face. Simply wash the face by water and use any cotton cloth or tissue to dry it. If you want to cleanse your face with any face wash or soap then you must choose that one which is gentle on your skin and have 2-3% of salicylic acid to control oil. You can easily found lots of home remedies over internet which can help you to control oil as well as will not harmful for your face.
Don’t forget to apply sunscreen
Don’t think because of oily skin, you don’t need any sunscreen. Sun protection is extremely important for oily skin. According to Australian study which was published in Annals of Internal Medicine in 2013, the sun causes an estimated 90% of skin aging.
If you choose to go out with any sun protection, it can lead you to more skin problems like winkles, skin damage, pigmentation etc. Sunburns can dry out the surface oils which makes the sebaceous glands more active than earlier. So, go out with sunscreen. There are many kinds of sunscreen available, choose the kind which suits and best for you. Don’t choose a sunscreen which is sticky to your skin or close your pore clogs.
You can go with water or powder-based sunscreen which also makes you feel lighter rather than make you feel greasy. We are mentioning some of them here EltaMD UV Clear Facial Sunscreen 46, Aveeno Positively Radiant Sheer Daily Moisturizer with SPF 30, Olay Daily Moisturizer with SPF 30 (even it is my favourite too), Ponds sun protect non-oily sunscreen SPF 50, Kaya Ultra light aqua gel sunscreen SPF 25, Lotus herbal safe 3-in-1 matte looks daily sunblock pa++ SPF-40, etc.
Your cosmetic
We are sure, you must be using good quality cosmetics. But have you ever checked their ingredients if not then there must be a little cause of having greasy- oily skin, hidden. You should use cosmetics labeled oil-free and non-comedogenic. Somehow, you should also avoid products with alcohol because it can cause a paradoxically increased amount of oil secretion. Avoid products that contain an ingredient that makes your skin thick or greasy.
If you don’t use moisturizer by thinking that it will just add more oil or grease to your face then you are mistaken. When you avoid using moisturizer as your daily habit your skin tries to produce more oil in order to compensate for the lack of moisturizer. So, don’t avoid using moisturizers but yes choose them too wisely as like sunscreen other it will really add more oil. You can also serums in place of moisturizer or can try other options too for moisturizing your skin. Stay away from creamy cosmetics don’t matter what it is, sunscreen or primer or anything else.
Avoid going out often
People with oily skin should go outside in the summer. Where genetics and age are causes of oily skin, humid climate, and pollution also play a huge role in having oily skin. It is been noticed people have oiler skin in summer or hot weather rather than in winter or spring.
Whenever you go out, get yourself a blotting sheet. When you feel excess oil on your skin swipe it on your face.
Don’t over-exfoliate or wash your face
We thought if exfoliating or washing the face is necessary then why not do it often in order to make ourselves more comfortable? But it can make the skin more oily. When you do them often, the oil needs to make your skin moist will also strip away which can make the sebaceous gland active and it will produce more oil as we have mentioned above. You just have to wash your face twice a day.
