Sun rays are harsh for our skin. Hence to keep our skin healthy we should minimize the time when our skins are exposed to the sun. sunshine enhances our mood and it also gives us vitamin D. but more sunlight can also cause negative effects like sunburn and redness on the skin.

We live in an urban society where we need to go out every day for work and shopping. And we can’t avoid sunlight. So it is advisable to apply sunscreen on the skin to minimize the negative effects of the sun.

We use store readymade sunscreen from the store. but many store-bought sunscreens are loaded with chemicals. And these chemicals are not only harmful but downright toxic to the body. Some of these chemicals like oxybenzone, disrupt hormones and cause allergies, while other chemicals like retinol, may speed the development of skin cancer.

DIY Homemade Sunscreen Recipes

Making your sunscreen is both easy and healthy for the skin. Here are some easy, DIY  homemade sunscreen recipes to keep you protected all summer from the sun.

1. Easy Sunscreen Recipes

You will need,

  • 90g Coconut Oil
  • 65g Carrier Oil
  • 28.5g Beeswax
  • 27.5g Shea Butter
  • 40g Zinc Oxide
  • 1/2t Vitamin E

Steps to follow,

  • Grab any type of container. If you are just starting on this then you can use glass.
  • Place your glass bowl and add all the ingredients one by one.
  • Let them boil.
  • Keep whisking in so that all ingredients will melt completely.
  • Then after all ingredients are melted. Remove it from the stove carefully.
  • Whip down condensation on the bowl so that there is no water left in the product.
  • Let your homemade sunscreen dry and set up.

Your sunscreen is ready. It will keep your skin moisturized and free of burning.

2. Non-Toxic Homemade Sunscreen

You will need,

  • 3/4 cup premade lotion
  • Virgin coconut, avocado, or olive oil.
  • 2-7 tablespoons uncoated, non-nano zinc.
  • Cocoa powder for tint (optional)

Steps to follow,

  • Combine all the ingredients.
  • Add zinc oxide with the lotion.
  • Boil all these ingredients in a double boiler.
  • Add essential cocoa powder for tint if you want.
  • Remove all the water and make it paste that you can apply on the skin smoothly.
  • You can also store it in the fridge to keep it last longer.
  • After it hardens keep applying on your skin.

This formula works immediately, so there’s no need to wait to go outside. However, it is not waterproof, so reapply after swimming. This homemade sunscreen is free from all the toxic chemicals.

3. DIY Natural Sunscreen

You will need,

  • 3 tbsp Beeswax pellets
  • 1/2 cup Shea Butter
  • 1/2 cup Coconut oil
  • 4 tbsp Zinc Oxide (non-nano)

Steps to follow,

  • Start a double boiler by placing a glass bowl over a pot of boiling water. Add your beeswax, shea butter, and coconut oil.
  • You can Stir with a wooden stick.
  • Remove the glass bowl from the double boiler and add zinc oxide. It will bubble and fizz slightly.
  • Keep stirring during the whole process.
  • After boiling all ingredients, remove excess water.
  • Water will prevent sunscreen from being hard.
  • After removing water, Pour sunscreen into a glass jar and let it sit for several hours until it cools.

If you store it correctly you can use this up to one year. You may find it easier to apply this sunscreen if you pour it into a tube. This sunscreen will keep you far from skin cancer and it is natural so your skin will be healthy as well.

4. Coconut Oil Sunscreen

You will need,

  • 1/4 cup coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup shea butter
  • 1/8 cup sesame oil or jojoba oil
  • 2 tbsp. beeswax
  • 1-2 tbsp. Zinc dioxide powder form
  • 1 tbsp. Oil of the red raspberry seed
  • Essential oils like lavender, rosemary, vanilla.

Steps to follow,

  • Grab a small boiler of the small pan to melt coconut oil, sesame oil, and all the other oils.
  • Als,o add beeswax, and she was butter together. Here shea butter will melt before beeswax.
  • After all the ingredients are mixed and melted successfully, turn the stove off and let the mixture dry in a cool place.
  • Use of zinc dioxide can create a lot of dust around your kitchen so it is advisable to add it with care
  • Keep this mixture in the fridge for 20-30 min.
  • The cool temperature will set the mixture.
  • Take the mixture out of the fridge and whip it with a hand mixer or you can also use stand mixture.
  • While whisking the mixture add red raspberry seed oil, carrot seed oil, and other essential oils.

You can use this homemade sunscreen as you would any regular sunscreen. Store it in a glass container in the fridge between uses. This will protect your skin from harmful sun rays.

5. Natural Sunscreen Stick

You will need,

  • 3 tbsp olive oil or any other oil (jojoba, almond, etc.)
  • 1 tbsp beeswax or vegetable wax
  • 1/2 tbsp zinc (non-nanoparticle)
  • 1/8 tbsp vitamin E or essential oil

Steps to follow,

  • Combine all ingredients except zinc oxide in a small container or jar and set it aside.
  • Fill a small pot with about a cup or two of water and bring to a light boil.
  • Remove from heat and place the small container with ingredients in the pot of water.
  • Stir occasionally and let sit until the beeswax is melted.
  • Once the mixture is melted, add the zinc oxide and stir it well.
  • While still warm, pour the mixture into a tube to store it.
  • As the mixture cools, it will take the shape of the container.

Now you have your sunscreen stick. It is easy to take everywhere and you can also use it frequently. This sunscreen is natural so it doesn’t contain any harmful chemicals.

6. Non-Toxic Lotion Bars

You will need,

  • 1/2 cup shea butter
  • 5 tbsp beeswax
  • 1/2 cup coconut oil
  • 2 Tbsp Zinc Oxide
  • ½ tbsp Vitamin E oil
  • ¾ tbsp essential oil

Steps to follow,

  • Combine the shea butter, coconut oil, and beeswax in, a glass bowl.
  • Then place it over a hot pot of water or you can also use a double boiler.
  • Heats on low until the ingredients are melted.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the zinc oxide, essential oil, and vitamin E oil.
  • Pour into a silicone mold and place it in the fridge for 30 min.

You can apply this sunscreen to protect yourself from sun rays. Simply grab a piece of lotion bar hold it in your hand and rub it on all over your body.
