Highlighting As It Is
highlighting is a very popular type of hair clarification. For the first time it was talked about by the gorgeous Brigitte Bardot. In the mid-50s, her name thundered all over the world after shooting in the film “And God created a woman. But gold hair actress rapidly changed after the premiere of the film and then one of the interviews flashed recognition of Mrs. Bardot that her favorite hairdresser Jacques Dressage dyed her hair in a special way. And today, this type of dyeing has a name – highlighting.
What’s the beauty of such clarification? Thanks to the dyeing of fine strands in lighter shades, the whole hairstyle gets a very beautiful effect of voluminous, thick hair, so its highlighting is very much liked by all the owners of fine weak hair. And this is really a great solution for this type of hair because the classic way of dyeing in one color can play a cruel joke on such women and make their hair flat and devoid of even a hint of volume.
Advantages And Disadvantages Of Land Highlighting
Highlighting also gives hair volume, smoothness, and grooming. Even if the hair has grown, it does not look strange or ugly, but it is important to choose the right shades so that the border with the roots is not so visible. It is recommended to renew the color at least once every 2-3 months, depending on how fast your hair grows. Therefore, highlighting can be called a rather inexpensive way to clarify your hair.
Girls who have long dreamed of trying on a blonde, but are afraid of dyeing in extremely white shades, can safely choose to melt their hair. Carefully melted hair looks quite natural and will allow you to move on to lighter coloring if you wish.
The main disadvantage of reclamation is some contraindications. It should be avoided by everyone who has brittle and damaged hair. In this case, you will have to start with hair recovery, and only after that, you will have to dye your hair. Do not melt freshly colored hair, as well as hair that has been colored henna, because the dye, entering into a reaction with natural dye, can result in dyeing hair green.
Highlighting At Home: The Procedure From And To
The easiest and most effective way to carry out the highlighting process at home is to do the dyeing with the help of foil. This method can be repeated even by a beginner, but if you help a girlfriend, mother or sister, the result will be faster and better.
So, you will need:
- Plastic paintbrush for dyeing
- Glass or plastic bowl (never metal)
- Two plastic combs: a regular massage and a thin, sharp leg
- Foil and scissors
- Hair dye
- Oxidizing agent
Hair dye should be in the color you want to get on your hair after the highlighting process. An oxidizer should be selected depending on the condition of the hair and its color prior to the highlighting process. So, if you have dark thick hair, choose a 9-12% solution depending on whether it is black or browner. For lighter, for example, blond girls will be suitable 6-8% oxidizer, but if the hair is thin and weak – stop at 3%.
The foil should be cut into strips 15-20 cm wide before painting. The length of the strips should be 2 times longer than the length of your hair.
Mix all the necessary solutions as described in the instructions. Be sure to also perform an allergic reaction test.
Let’s move on to the technique of hair highlighting.
- Brush the hair, and divide it into 3 parts – two lateral and occipital. If there is a bang, it should also be selected separately. Secure the parts you are not working with with with hairpins or rubber bands.
- Using a long tip of the comb, separate one thin line of hair no more than 10 cm wide. Divide the hair into thin strands in staggered order and place a strip of foil under the roots.
- Apply the clarifier with a brush to the selected strands along the entire length of the hair. After that, wrap the foil in half, then fold the sides of the strips. Thus we color all our hair.
Exposure time will depend on the initial color of your hair and the result you want to get. Bright brown hair is brightened quite quickly – just 10-15 minutes, but darker hair takes longer – up to 40 minutes. However, be careful not to hold the oxidizer, because it can make your hair very dry and brittle. Be sure to read the instructions that come with the oxidizer and consider the manufacturer’s recommendations.
After clarification, rinse off the powder and dry the hair completely with a hairdryer. Next, apply the prepared paint to the hair and tint them. This will give the hair shine and beautiful color.
Don’t forget that the hair is melted and needs special care. Choose a line of blonde products marked “dry and brittle”. Use thermal protection when drying hair with a hairdryer, avoid frequent use of hair iron. Special oils and masks will help to keep your hair long and healthy.
